Photography has always been part of my life.
It was like eating, breathing, walking.
My father was my role model.
He had photography as his great passion.
When I was six, he passed away.
The idea of never seeing him again, terrified me.
I have always wondered, what was left?
Throughout the time, I have been meeting with him again on every photo I shot.
This was the way I reconnected with him.
I feel that every portrait I make, I follow his gaze; unconsciously.
I know he's present.
Photography is powerful to capture a moment.
This moment will never be the same ever again.
Just as life.
Carla Nobre is an autodidact. Her career began at age 15 in photography and at age 23 in cinema. Her training includes courses, workshops and drama labs.
She worked with big film directors until she became a director in 2004.
Carla values beauty and realism in her films. Pioneered by using only natural light in her work, giving the movies an original atmosphere. Her films have rhythm and movement, because she believes that just like life, a movie must be alive. Her work has some quirks, which makes her an irreverent director.
Her first short film "Silvia" screened at the Short Film Corner in Cannes. She created and directed the documentary “Vozes” ("Voices"), which tells the story of four Brazilian singers, in the editing phase. She created, produced and directed the documentary feature film “Uma Família desse Planeta” ("A family from this Planet"), which follows the journey of a family in search of a sustainable life in Indonesia, which is nearing completion. She also created, produced and directed the web series “Os Vizinhos” ("The Neighbors"). She has now finished two short films, “Carla,” a work done through an unfinished film of her late father, and “Like Freaks,” a film that tells the story of two unpaid single friends lost in their many attempts to find love in times of "like" in New York City.
In photography, she held an individual exhibition “Ímpar”, at the Laura Alvim House of Culture, in Rio de Janeiro. The series explores the search for a subjective identity, transforming the reality itself and its time into doubt.
In advertising, she worked for major brands and agencies such as Adidas, P&G, Unilever, Pepsi, Netflix, GM and Honda.
Naturalism and spontaneity are the essence of her work.

BRAZILIAN DIRECTOR MINISTER WORKSHOP IN BALI 2019
In Bali for the filming of her new documentary “A Family on this Planet”, Brazilian director Carla Nobre gave a workshop on cinema for students and the community promoted by Green School, considered the most sustainable school in the world.
Created in 2008 by Canadian John Hardy and his wife, the American Cynthia Hardy, the Green School is visited by tourists from all over the world, not only for the beautiful structures and bamboo construction method, but also for the methodology of the international school, which offers training based on a holistic view, the student and environmental awareness.
It is the first time that a Brazilian director participates in an event at the school.
"It is very good being able to share experiences and knowledge about cinema.
A film has the power to transport us to another place.
Being able to imagine a story and then see it transformed into a film is very good!
In that workshop I talked about the possible.
Use your imagination to create your film, because nothing is impossible for cinema ”.
